Phillies Suffer Fourth Straight Loss to Brewers

Well, the Phillies felt like giving a gift to the Milwaukee Brewers on Sunday afternoon, with a loss that handed the FightinPhillies their 4th straight loss as the Brewers swept them in this 3-game weekend series. A few errors led to today’s loss depite a lead of 2-0 for the Phillies, which they saw dissolve to a 5 to 2 loss on a Sunday beautiful afternoon weather wise in South Philadelphia.

Weston Wilson, (I like him, but he’s still with the Phillies?) and Trea Turner contributed to two horrible plays that saw the team give up their lead and hand this game over to the visitors. As mentioned earlier, this is the 4th straight loss by the team and it solidifies my premise that losing is contagious.

It’s the first sweep of the Phillies by the Brewers in many years, the last time this was done with a sweep in Philly was 2015, and it was the Brewers 7th win in a row. Christian Yelich was one of the best pickups of an available free agent MLB player in the past few years, he got hit by a pitch on Sunday vs. the Phillies.

Do we miss Rhys Hoskins? Yes of course we do. He’s a great teammate who makes things happen. The loss of his playing for the Phils is deep, even though the team has done pretty well the past 2 seasons.

Despite this series sweep by the Brewers, the Phillies have been a hot team, here’s a short bit from the Phllies notes department to the press (these stats were prior to today’s game):

BUNCH OF FRONTRUNNERS: The Phillies are 28-6 this year when scoring first and they have won 15 straight games when doing so (since 5/6 at TB) and 17 of their last 18 (since 5/2 vs ARI) … Philadelphia’s 28 wins when scoring first are the most of any club in baseball and their .824 winning percentage in games they score first is also tops in MLB … The Phillies are 26-1 when leading after 6 innings (.963 win %), 31-1 when leading after 7 innings (.969 win %) and 31-0 when leading after 8 innings (1.000%).

What’s next for the Phillies? It’s the 7:07 PM starts coming up, I kinda like that odd time, it sets the Jays apart… maybe because they are Canadian? You would have to ask Phillies manager Rob Thomson about that one!
