I am not calling this a doubleheader in the headline. The Philadelphia Phillies will play 2 single games today with the first tilt starting at 1:05 PM at Citizens Bank Park and the 2nd game at 6:45 PM. No, the Phillies organization can’t just schedule a simple doubleheader.
I asked an AI engine for a photo of a ‘Phillie Phanatic’ photo and this interesting creature is what was deliverd to me. An interesting mascot for sure demonstrating the somewhat creative side of this new technology. Perhaps, it reminds me of the grinch that stole the true ‘doubleheader’ ??

Games are not held the way they used to be when there was a rainout or a postponement of a game.
No, baseball has indeed changed a whole lot in just the past couple of years. This practice of holding 2 separate games has gone on for some time by baseball now, including the Phillies as they follow suit with other teams and the way they choose to conduct their businesses. Many years ago, in an attempt to attract more fans, baseball teams scheduled what was called a doubleheader on the schedule. I don’t think this has done by the Phils for at least the whole time that the ‘new’ stadium has been in use, and Citizens Bank Park is now 21 years old as of this season.
No, the Phils opted for 2 gates, 2 seperate parking revenues, 2 seperate times that fans will have to enter and exit the ballpark. No, back some years ago, it was much easier, a ballclub use to offer the fans a chance to see 2 games with just one admission price. Those were the games that I always attended as my father, who was a big baseball fan, wanted to see plenty of extra baseball for his hard earned admission price. Granted tickets were no where near the price the that they are now back then, but people still work very hard for their entertainment dollar. Now days, that entertainment dollar has to be stretched much further with the apps, and everything else that you can spend your money with individual TV programs, sports streaming services and the like.
No, those days are indeed gone, no more 2 games for one, if you’re a certain age, our fathers who loved those true doubleheaders are probably passed away and gone. There is the age of innocence that the thrill and the fun of 2 games for the price of 1 afforded the fans a real chance to immerce themselves into baseball for many hours. Not the crowd now, that want to run out of the stadium at the crack of a timers whip or instant replay to ‘get the play right’. No, those days of the ‘close’ play at any base and the quick decision of an umpire that did what he was paid to do, make a call on the field, is forever lost in technology’s ever changing web of intricate and complicated methods.
