The Phillies have taken over the top spot in the rankings all of a sudden as the team has seen a power surge into first place and are now a full 2.0 games above the New York Mets in the NL East. The last couple of days have seen the Phillies accomplish some nice goals. As of March 16th, the Phillies have won a season high to this point, 9-games straight. The most games this team has been over .500 was reached on May 24th, which is 16 games over .500 for this season.

The Braves come into Philadelphia on Tuesday night, Ronald Acuna, Jr. and company. The Braves are coming off a series loss to the San Diego Padres over Memorial Day weekend. It was Ronald Acuna, Jr. who came back to the Braves after being off for a year with an injury and All-Star Orlando Arcia being demoted to the minors to make way for Acuna, Jr.

In May 2025, Philadelphia Phillies’ Kyle Schwarber had a strong performance, hitting 18 home runs, including his 300th career homer. He also had a two-run double that lifted the Phillies to a win against the Athletics. Schwarber’s 47-game on-base streak was snapped on May 14, 2025.

Key Highlights of Schwarber’s May 2025:

  • Home Runs: Hitting a total of 18 home runs in May.
  • 300th Career Homer: Reached the 300-homer milestone on May 19, 2025.
  • Go-Ahead Double: Hit a two-run double to lift the Phillies to a win against the Athletics on May 24, 2025.
  • On-Base Streak: His 47-game on-base streak ended on May 14, 2025.
  • Strong Performances: Schwarber’s performance in May included multiple home runs, RBIs, and a strong on-base streak, contributing significantly to the Phillies’ winning streak.

The Phils have slipped into the top spot in the NL East at a great time. The end of May is a time of the season where if a team starts playing really well, like the Phillies are, they may find themselves putting some distance between them and the next team in the division, in this case it’s the Mets.

The Braves are currently in 3rd place with a record of 25-27, scheduled pitchers for the opening game of the series is Spencer Strider vs. Ranger Suarez. Read more about this matchup here
