Phils lose with fans early, when they win, no noise

This writer is getting sick of the typical Philadelphia sports fan. They are predicable as the sun that circles the earth every 24 hours. The Phillies win and the sun is warm and hot and everything is just groovy. If… and I say if… the Phillies should happen to lose a game? That signifies that the sky is falling and the Phils have something inherently wrong with them. No team is perfect.. to my knowledge, no team has ever won 162 games… though KYW News radio employee and author, Paul Kurtz, wrote about that in one of his books here.

Yes, the team has been in some close games of late with the bullpen not performing up to where it should be, but this is no time to be sounding an alarm. We must remember, the Phillies management dealt two key pieces of the bullpen last year to the Baltimore Orioles. We sent fireballer, Gregory Soto and Seranthony Dominguez. That’s a significant deduction from the bullpen. Two players that were very good mind you, but the fact remains, it seems like there was a mentality of ownership to change the bullpen completely. Did they accomplish that goal correctly yet? I don’t think you can draw that conclusion just yet.

Here is a breakdown of the trade last year that sent two key pieces of the Phillies bullpen away:

  • Hays Trade:. The Phillies acquired Austin Hays, a 29-year-old outfielder, from the Orioles. In return, the Phillies sent Seranthony Domínguez and Cristian Pache to Baltimore.
  • Soto Trade:. The Phillies traded Gregory Soto, a left-handed reliever, to the Orioles for Seth Johnson and Moises Chace.
  • Purpose of Trades:. The Phillies were looking to bolster their outfield with Hays and address potential bullpen issues. The Orioles, on the other hand, were seeking to improve their bullpen and add depth in the outfield.

Of course the fans want to win, that is part of being a baseball fan. If they didn’t, we would be like Cubs fans, lol. But seriously, the team is in New York, this is the first meeting with the Phillies and the Mets, we lost Game 1 with Aaron Nola on the mound. Nola isn’t getting much run support, but he does pitch against some quality pitching. Let’s see how they finish up in the New York Mets series, with their record now at 13-10 on the early 2025 season.

Check out a video that I did at my local Greens and Grains, a healthy alternative food vendor at the Citizens Bank Ballpark, they are from the South Jersey area, and I announce my bid to get ‘The King’, Howard Eskin back to Citizens Bank Park to cover the Phillies!
