The Phillies are off to a great start!

Don’t look now, but the Phillies have gotten themselves off to a wonderful start in the ’25 season with their 6th win of the year over the Los Angeles Dodgers. If you follow my blog and or podcast, you would know that I don’t put much into the Spring Training schedule, but when the games begin to start for real, then of course the winning or losing actually counts.

The Phillies hosted the superstar Dodgers last night, and the Dodgers came into the game undefeated. The Phils haven’t been doing that badly either, they got their 6th win of the year to improve to 6-1 on the early season. They too brought their unbeaten record into the game which J.T. Realmuto came up with a couple of clutch throws to help the Phils with their 4th win of the year.

The Phillies look like they are on a mission this year, their play and demeanor is one that is a focused and precision like approach to winning and they are show their many years of being together as a core group. Jesus Luzardo turned in a great game for the Phils last night, a game of which was broadcast on Apple TV. I love the Apple TV broadcasts, they are the most advanced technically, being that the games are broadcast in 4K – and their use of graphic displays in the game. Unfortunately, it is frustrating for some fans to see the games, they don’t know where to tune in and don’t know where to start when wanting to view the game if they don’t have knowledge of Apple TV streaming.

This writer absolutely hates the Nike City Connect Phillies uniforms, they are a complete smack in the face to any and every Phillies fan. Someone who probably doesn’t know a thing about baseball in Philadelphia decided that it was a good idea to design a blue and yellow themed uniform in a city and team that doesn’t have the slightest connection to those colors. It’s almost a crime really by Nike, and they should just stick to making the uniforms that the teams have used and are specified to use with colors that matter lol. City Connect jerseys are a thing that was interesting upon first learning of their eventual debut. The outrageous design is one that I simply cannot watch on the field even.

Luzardo looked great on the mound last year for the Marlins, and he is continuing to improve as he struck out 7 in a strong 8 innings. The Dodgers threw the highly paid Japanese star, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, and the Phils managed to get just 3 hits off of him, in the 3-2 victory. The Phils handed Yamamoto his first loss of the year.

The series with the Dodgers continues today with a second game of this very interesting series. The Phillies needed an opponent like the Dodgers early on in the year. The Dodgers are stocked with big name talent and of course it’s a rivalry with some that remember the playoffs with the Dodgers many years ago and have fond memories of Dodgers players like Steve Garvey, Ron Cey, and Fernando Valenzuela. The weather will be in the mid 50’s for the game, so take a blanket or something to stay warm for the 4:05 pm start.
