it’s almost time to start up another year of Philly baseball, and that means a time where the women are making their way to the stadium and record numbers anymore whether it be with a girlfriend, with a husband, or boyfriend they’re all starting to come back to the stadium. Fact that the Phillies are a winning team has helped that tremendously.
The Phillies do market to women with a special promotion during the season where they invite ladies on all ages to take a look inside the game and a business of baseball. The ladies have special access to players and special guests and it makes for a great day out and to learn more about the game that goes on beyond what you see on the field. Yes the game of baseball is great, but the business of baseball is even better and each year a lot of marketing money is spent on how to attract women to the game that is primarily attended by men. Ladies prefer a certain look to a jersey… so the MLB and their marketing teams pulled out all the stops and offering a lot of women’s cut jerseys and special colors designed to attract a female fan. Years ago, none of this existed in fact, even T-shirts and marketing items like hats, jerseys and jackets were very dull and dry for fans of all sorts, but specifically not even available to women. So when you go to the gift shop this year and see a wall of items specifically geared towards the lady and ladies in your life just think of years ago when they didn’t have these things.
We live in an age where everything is instant -available at the touch of a button ….from food to drinks to even yes, going to a baseball game where you cannot even buy a ticket that existed in the old days ….a simple thing that you held in your hand that told you that yes, you were going to a special place that day! And what a magical place… the smells , the sounds, the pulse of baseball.
The baseball field a field of dreams a field, where memories are made. I still have a box of my old tickets sitting around for prosperity sake and every now and again I’ll open the box and look at the tickets that used to exist back in the 1970s and 80s into the 90s until the day when our phones took over and now all you need to bring to the game is oh yes, that Almighty phone, it has your wallet, it has your camera. It has everything you need to succeed in life and it is even a computer. What more can we ask for? Can it walk? Can it talk? Can it even make a waffle fry? Or how about one of Chickies and Petes famous crab fries? No, your phone won’t be able to make you that – but you can capture a certain number of memories with your phone with your girl or with your girlfriend or whoever you bring to the stadium this year.
So the season starts up in just a month or so and we’re underway with the spring training schedule here in Florida ….so enjoy, God bless, and don’t forget to take some time out to think about the days where you went to the stadium with that special someone ……. be your father, your son, another family member or friend, or that Phils fan ghost that sat in the seat next to you and haunted you over the Phillies losses piled up over the years, but of course they have one as well Enjoy the spring training season and know that it is not always given, each day is a gift, and a gift that is very special. Women in baseball are an important part of the sport and we all know that.
