Philly’s winter weather brings warm thoughts of Spring Training

It’s difficult to think of the warm days of summer and Phillies baseball, when you are in Philadelphia and it’s snowing as it was yesterday during the Eagles playoff game, where the Birds took control of a close playoff game vs. the very good LA Rams yesterday at the Linc.

But that is the nice thing about living in the Northeast, it keeps that ‘Philly Grind’ mentality in focus. It’s cold today, the wind is blowing and the ice is thick across the Philadelphia region. That doesn’t deter the many fans of Phillies baseball from day dreaming for the 2025 season, when Bryce Harper will take hold of a 100-mile per hour fastball and put it deep over the right field wall and into the stands.

Spring Training of course is a ‘right of Spring’ and it’s getting here faster than we think. It will still be cold in the South Jersey / Philly / Delaware Valley area, the players have alll well been preparing for the season. Their livelihoods depend on it, so a lot of players have intense regimes that make them the professional athletes that they are.

Mike Trout’s preparation has been documented over the years, he works out like a beast, and that story is just one of getting ready for a baseball season that is 162 games long. It’s a very long season that is grueling not only to the body, but mentally for the players, but it’s the game that they love and it’s the way it’s been for so many years.

Mike Trout’s approach to hitting during Spring Training:

Top players have a workout ethic that exceeds a player that isn’t achieving all that they should. They are still MLB players, which is an amazing accomplishment in it’s out right, but what sometimes seperates a good player from a great player is their preparation.

Here’s Bryce Harper doing his Spring Training ritual working on his signature home run swing:

So Spring will be arriving to Philadelphia…. officially Spring doesn’t start until Thursday, March 20th which is a full 2 months away. For the baseball fan thought it begins early… when Pitchers and catchers report to Clearwater around Valentines Day, then the Spring Training season starts shortly after that, and as baseball fans, we can’t wait.
