Phils win on walk-off against the Dodgers

The Phillies and the Dodgers squared off on Friday night at Citizens Bank Park last night sending two pitchers to the mound that had an ERA of more than 5.00. The over/under run line was set at a lofty 9.5 for the game. What happened? Old friends, Freddie Freeman and Bryce Harper met up on the diamond, and the game unfolded from there.

For a lot of the game, it was 1-1, until the bottom of the 5th inning when the Phillies exploded with timely hitting by Nick Castellanos doubling in Edmundo Sosa, then Kyle Schwarber was able to score on a wild pitch, and Trea Turner singled in Castellanos, making the score 4-1 Phillies.

The Dodgers wouldn’t be done though, as they would rally back to tie this game up 4-4 with some key hits of their own. Back-to-back HRs by Mookie Betts (17th HR) and Freddie Freeman (12th HR) tied the game up. The Phillies would need a dramatic bottom of the 9th HR by Kyle Schwarber (17th HR) to win it 5-4. It’s Kyle’s month after all being that it’s June and he did really well last year. He won Player of the Month for the month of June in 2021 and 2022.

The win brought the Phils within 1 game of the .500 mark, they are at 31-32 on the season. The Phillies now have their longest winning streak of the year which is 6 games going into play on Saturday afternoon at 4:05 PM, when the Phils will again take on the LA Dodgers, and then wrap up the series on Sunday afternoon at 1:35 PM.

Kyle Schwarber’s dramatic 9th inning HR was his 4th ever walk-off winner hit by him in his career, his first as a Philadelphia Phillie, his last prior to this was when he was with Washington and hit a walk-off on 4/30/21 vs. Miami.

It was the 2nd time this season that the Dodger combo of Betts/Freeman went back-to-back with HR, the other time was in the 7th inning as well on May 12th, vs. San Diego at Dodger Stadium.
