We were waiting for the Phillies to have a breakout game and yesterday afternoon, we saw just that. The Phils broke out in the 1st inning with 6-runs and never looked back eventually banging out 13 hits in the game. The Phils tagged Chicago Cubs starter, Jaimison Talion for 8 R which included 2 HR, in only 2.1 IP. It all started with a 1st inning grand slam HR by Kyle Schwarber which scored Stott, Castellanos, and Harper. Then followed up with a Kody Clemens HR, it’s good to see him hitting rather than out on the mound, which I hope we don’t see again all year. The Phils brought the sold-out crowd a 12-3 victory over the Cubs.

Tom McCarthy led the TV broadcast off yesterday talking about baseball being a series of peaks and valleys and the Phils have been in a valley far too many times so far this year already.
The Cubs, like the Giants, had a magical hold over the Phillies. Believe it or not, the Phils didn’t win against the Cubs for a total of 7 games stretching back to the start of last season up to this win. That’s incredible. Yesterday’s win also was the 3rd time the Phillies have scored a double-digit run total this season.
The series wraps up at CBP later today, with Justin Steele for the Cubs going up against Taijuan Walker for the Phillies.
Notables for the Phillies offense yesterday:
Bryce Harper: 2-3 with 2 BB and 1 RBI
Nick Castellanos: 1-4 .. BA at .299
Kyle Schwarber: 1-2 with 2 BB and 4 RBI, His 210th HR of his career, and 5th Grand Slam of his career
