Phils take on Cubs in weekend series

The Phillies are home this weekend to take on the Chicago Cubs. That’s the good news, the Phils needed to get out of California after being swept by the Giants in San Francisco and try to rebuild their winning ways. We saw a shaky defense and shaky pitching out west, combined with an offense that despite having many chances, couldn’t seem to score. The team was an incredible 0-28 with RISP before they broke that streak in the 2nd game of the Giant series. Do you wonder how this can happen?

The Phillies in fact left the bases loaded on the way out of San Fran, stranding all runners as Trea Turner made the last out to leave a lasting impact on the trip to SF. The Phillies old manager, Gabe Kapler, is pictured above high-fiving the Giants player, J.D. Davis after the Giants sweep.

The Cubs had a day off to rest with the Phillies leading up to the start of the 3-game set that is scheduled over the weekend. Some rain is in the forecast, but it’s too early to say if there will be possible postponements for the games. The new MLB rule of not restarting games that aren’t official, is a huge one for fans, meaning if there are 3 or 4 innings played in a game, then it gets suspended, and you have to travel to the ballpark again just to see the remaining innings. That could be a short game, especially with how fast the games are going by now.

The Cubs are 19-24 on the season, the Phils come into this series at 20-23. Marcus Stroman vs Ranger Suarez in the first game are the probable starters. The Phillies need a win to get them back into a groove.
