The Phillies took 11 years to win a series in Colorado? Wow, it’s true, the last time the Phils won a series at Coors Field was July 13-15, 2012. Can’t believe it was that long of a drought for a series win there. Mother’s Day brought a crowd of 30,325 to the stadium for the Rockies vs. Phillies in Denver yesterday, and moms were honored.
But that’s not all that happened yesterday at Coor’s Field, with the Phillies losing 4-0 in the Sunday match, a base brawl game broke out after Rockies pitcher, Jake Bird, make some disparaging comments and gestures after getting out of the 7th inning, and Bryce Harper charged the Rockies dugout. Tom McCarthy, the Phillies announcer, stuck up for the Phillies, he said Bird shouldn’t have been taunting the Phillies especially since he wasn’t pitching all that well. McCarthy’s color commentator, Ruben Amaro Jr., agreed on the broadcast.

The Phillies didn’t do that well to win on the field for Sunday but this benches-clearing disagreement may have lit a spark under the Phillies as they head now toward San Francisco. Bryce Harper wasn’t completely healthy so it was a scary moment when we saw him charging toward the Rockies bench and pushing people around. The Phillies players, Kyle Schwarber and Bryce Harper talked about the incident after the game.
Prior to the loss yesterday, the Phils extended their longest winning streak at 5 games which they started winning on May 7th and continued through Saturday’s game on May 13th. The wins helped propel the Phils into 2nd place in the NL East. Aaron Nola got the loss yesterday he is now 3-3 with a 4.53 ERA on the season.
