Well, it was a great day at the ballpark yesterday. Mother’s Day was celebrated a little early because the Phillies are on the road for the real holiday next week, but it’s always a special day at the park when all the ladies are presented with a nice gift. The Phils turned things around on the field as well, producing the first win of May after a nasty 6-game losing streak. Several Phillies players including big stars as J.T. Realmuto, Bryce Harper, and Nick Castellanos, and families among others took to the field, with a pre-game presentation to the mothers.
The Phillies avoided being swept and that was a great thing. It was the longest losing streak that the Phillies have endured in the short 2023 season so far. There are peaks and valleys in every baseball season and hopefully, we can avoid the valleys that seem to crop up during the season. Oddly enough the Phillies had just finished with their longest winning streak of 4 games when they hit into the 6-game losing streak that ran a period that started with the win streak on April 26th, and then the losing streak which ended May 7th.
No rest for the weary, it’s Toronto coming into Philly for the first and only time in ’23, a brief two-game series. The Phils will return the favor and visit Toronto for a 2-game series on August 15th and 16th later in the summer. Toronto is doing well lately, their record is 21-14 on the year.
