Phils welcome in Boston for a big weekend series

This series with Boston is going to be big for the Phillies. The team is needing a couple of wins after getting swept in LA by the Dodgers on the tail end of the road trip that the Phils were on. Boston is on a winning streak that has extended to 6 games as they come into this weekend’s series red-hot against a floundering Phillies team. The good news is Bryce Harper is back, and Brandon Marsh is still one of the hottest hitters in the NL.

In Game 1 of the series at home vs Boston, it will be Chris Sale pitching for the Red Sox, he is rebounding off of what seems to be a long bunch of IL stints for him. Apparently, he is healthy now as with the last start on Tuesday, the Red Sox won, with Sale’s line: 6.1 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 5 K, in the win for Sale vs. the Guradians in which they won, 7-1. Previously, though Sale had struggled, in 6 starts total his line is: 29.1 IP, 33 H, and 22 ER. Sale’s record this season is 2-2 with a 6.75 ERA.

The Phillies have Zack Wheeler pitching for them. Wheeler is the ace of the Phillies so far in 2023, he’s 3-1 with a 3.86 ERA so far, as with every start he seems to be getting better. In Wheeler’s last start he is: 6.0 IP, 3 H, 0 ER, 7 K, for the win over Houston on April 29th.

The Phillies looked promising in the Houston series, but that promise soon evaporated. The Dodgers 3-game loss weighed heavily on the team and brought the season record to 15-17, a full 2-games under .500, firmly placing them into the 4th place spot in the NL East. Although the New York Mets and the Miami Marlins have been losing lately and both are at 16-16 as of this morning. The Mets getting swept in Detroit by the Tigers in a surprising set of loses for them, even with Justin Verlander getting the start in his old home of Detroit, where he spent many years. Verlander gave up 2 HRs, and that was the difference for the Tigers beating the Mets 2-0.

The Sixers play the Boston Celtics at home both Friday and Sunday so parking could be an issue. Get there early and avoid the problems!
