Bryce Harper returns to the lineup as Phils return to .500 in Los Angeles

The Phillies will get superstar Bryce Harper back in uniform tonight in Los Angeles following his appointment with the surgeon who performed the procedure on him to repair his torn ulnar collateral ligament. That’s great news for the team, and fans that have anticipated his return.

Harper is a veteran presence on the team, and his contributions will be welcomed for a team that has seen a very rough start of 0-4 at the beginning of the season, only to rally to a .500 record recently and then back to a .500 record with the loss last night in LA in Game 1 of the series between the Phils and the Dodgers.

Taijuan Walker only pitched 3.1 innings last night and gave up 8 H and 8 ER on the night to get the loss. By the top of the 4th inning, the Phillies were down 5-0 when Kyle Schwarber tucked a ball just over the wall in right field to get the Phillies on the board. It was the first homer given up in 34 innings pitched by Dodger pitcher, Tony Gonsolin.

The Phillies got very sloppy in the field after the Schwarber home run, but Nick Castellanos knocked in 2 RBIs and brought his batting average up to .319, the Phillies just couldn’t keep the Dodgers contained as they knocked 4 HRs total out of the ballpark. The final score was 13-4 Dodgers.

Mookie Betts and David Peralta combined for 7 RBIs on the night in the offensive onslaught by the Dodgers. On a trivial note, Kody Clemens was put in after the game was out of reach to pitch. He pitched 0.2 innings and got a strikeout. Tonight on the mound for the Phillies, it’s Matt Strahm for another 10:10 PM start.
