Phils get sloppy at home, but earn series win over Reds

The Phillies had an excellent opportunity to sweep the Cincinnati Reds yesterday afternoon at Citizens Bank Park after a brilliant NL Champions Ring Ceremony that saw the 2022 Phillies get a magnificent diamond and jewel-encrusted ring to celebrate their winning the NL Pennant last year. This ring was so beautiful, it almost brought tears to the eye especially considering this team last year was nowhere on the radar to accomplish this, they believed in themselves though, and as we now know, that’s about all you need to have a great chance!

Here’s the awesome NL Champs ring that the Phillies got yesterday:

The Phils looked as if they would have glided to victory yesterday, (although Kyle Schwarber made two base running gaffs that could have led to 2 outs rather than the Phils scoring their first run on the day) Taijuan Walker got his first-ever start as a Phillie on the mound at CBP, they took a nice early 1-0 lead, and Nick Castellanos then tried to score way too late to make it 2-0, and was out by a mile, and John Kruk declared on the TV broadcast, ‘A Little League game broke out,’ too much laughter in the booth. And the game went on from there.

The Reds kept it close, Alec Bohm hit a nice long HR (just missed getting into the 2nd deck at Harry The K’s) to give the Phils a 4-2 lead, but we couldn’t hold it there, the Reds again would battle back to make it a 4-3 game. The Reds roared back to wrangle this game from the Phillies in the top of the 8th, a long hit that sailed over Nick Castellanos’s head, with a double that made it 4-3 Phillies still with 2 outs. In the top of the 9th, the Reds would do it again, with a broken-bat double that scored 3 in the 6-4 Reds comeback win. Again, this was a game that the Phillies should have won.

Tonight, the Phillies will welcome in the Miami Marlins, in the first of a 2023 13-game series vs the Marlins, all they did in the last series they played was hand the NY Mets a 7-2 loss on Sunday, they lost the first two games vs. the Mets at Citi Field.

Tonight the Phillies will face Sandy Alcantara who is boasting a 1.84 ERA for the Marlins and they will face the Phillies new spot starter, Matt Strahm, who did very well in his first trip to the mound, in 5 IP, he only gave up 1 H and still has an 0.00 ERA as a starter.
