One thing about a championship game, there is always going to be a team that loses. Last night, we saw the Philadelphia Eagles lose in the Super Bowl to the Kansas City Chiefs. The Eagles looked pretty sharp on offense at the beginning of this game, but the defense couldn’t contain the KC offense enough to keep them from answering back to every score the Eagles made. I would have preferred Jalen Hurts to establish a running game that didn’t include himself, he had the most yards rushing last night with 15 rushes and 70 yards, with the other 3 running backs, Sanders, Gainwell, and Scott, combined only having 45 yards on 17 carries between them on the ground combined.
Embed from Getty ImagesThat adds up to bad mojo for Philadelphia sports teams as we have sent 3 teams to championship games in the last year, but couldn’t capture a championship in any one of them, including the Phillies who lost to the Houston Astros in the 2022 World Series.
I had a great time watching the game from one of the nicest casinos in Atlantic City, Ocean Casino Hotel so that was great. I wish it would have been an Eagles win, but It’s not about excuses that the Eagles lost, it’s just that they were outplayed on this night, oh yeah, and what appeared to be a bogus holding call just happened to seem like it helped the Chiefs to victory. Sports are far from perfect though, and you shouldn’t have to point to one play to make any excuse, but if you do, that play would be the one to do it. There was plenty of talk from players though that said the turf that the game was played on was the worst that they had ever played on, and we saw the kickers having a problem with it, so it must have been true.
Embed from Getty ImagesMoving on from all the hype and circumstance of the Super Bowl, thoughts now turn to Spring Training as the players who will be participating in the World Baseball Classic report to camps today around baseball to prepare for the long season and the tournament that they will play in just a couple weeks in March.
The tournament starts on March 7th and runs through March 21st and it is a star-studded affair. For the USA, we have such players as J.T. Realmuto, Kyle Schwarber, Adam Wainwright, Pete Alonso, and Mike Trout among others. Freddie Freeman will play for team Canada.
This will be the 5th Baseball Classic series since it started in 2006, the last time it was held was 2017, this 5th edition was supposed to take shape in 2021, but the Covid-19 pandemic forced the cancellation of it. Japan has won the most titles, with 2 victories.
Let’s be glad that Spring Training 2023 is finally here!
