World Series and the dream season for Phils come to an end in Houston

Dashed dreams of a World Championship for the Phillies are all that is left now that the Phils lost Game 6 in Houston last night to a very good, if not great Houston Astros. That team won 106 games in the regular season and solidified their place in history with the 2022 World Series victory last night.

A lot of chatter this morning on ‘what ifs’ and ‘why’ has permeated the social media sites, in relation to why certain moves were made by Phillies manager, Rob Thomson, but in the end, it was the inability of the Phillies offense to keep getting the job done last night in Houston. Multiple batters watched the called third strike last night and put the Phils in a tone that lasted that way essentially the whole night. The lack of offense was the biggest reason in the last few games that the Phillies didn’t win the World Series.

Zack Wheeler, Phils starter for Game 6 was electric and Framber Valdez for the Astros was equally so. It wasn’t easy for players on either team to get hits off of these two pitchers. Wheeler got the loss in the game though and fell to 1-3 in the postseason, and Valdez got the win, he is 3-0. The sad truth of any World Series is one team has to win, and one has to lose. Losing is bitter, but this Phillies team wasn’t expected to be here for sure. The national media sort of let Phillies fans know this.

This season has been a true roller coaster ride for all that have witnessed it from the beginning. To even think that the Phillies would have made the World Series this year in the first couple of months of the regular season would have been insane. But, baseball is that way. Get hot at the right time, start to play some great baseball in a key moment in time and your team can go as far as the Phillies did. Look at some other teams in the league. The LA Dodgers had a marvelous season but couldn’t get it done in the postseason, and so did the Mets and Yankees. Powerhouse teams that were expected to do well, but in the end, the Phillies are the 2022 National League Champs, and that is something great to be proud of.
