The Philadelphia area has been in a fever pitch from the moment the Phillies were the National League Champions. That signaled the fact that the World Series would be returning to Philadelphia after a long 13-year absence. The last time this series was in Philly, it was 2009, which really seems like a long time ago. The appearance in this year’s World Series has surprised the baseball world, as the Phillies came into the playoffs this year by way of an ‘extra’ Wild Card team added to the mix. The Phillies have taken advantage of this and now have nearly won the series with a decisive Game 3 win last night in a 7-0 victory that turned into a home run fest by the Phils.

It was a juggernaut of HR power that was displayed by the Phils. First, Bryce Harper set the tone of the night with his HR in the first inning, with a runner on base to give the Phils a 2-0 lead with 2 outs. Alec Bohm sends one into the stands in the 2nd inning, a solo shot with no outs. 3-0 Phillies. Also in the 2nd, Brandon Marsh went deep with another solo HR with 2 outs. It’s 4-0 Phillies at this point in the game. Kyle Schwarber gets in on the HR fest, with a dinger in the 5th inning, with a runner on, and 1 out. It’s 6-0 Phils. Bedlam at the Bank 2 if you will! In the same inning, it’s Rhys Hoskins going yard, with the same 1 out, solo HR, it’s now 7-0 Phillies and that’s the way the game would end.

He had the poise and confidence on the mound that was really astounding! He kept the Astros off of their game all night. Meanwhile, Lance McCullers for the Astros got rocked on this night, and the Phils teed off on him in front of the hometown crowd. In 4.1 IP, McCullers, Jr. gave up 6 H and 7 ER on the night. The Phillies displayed that awesome power that they flexed a few times during the season but rarely the way it all culminated as it did last night.

Tonight, it’s Aaron Nola who will get the ball for the Phillies, and get another chance to shine, though he’s showing some signs of giving up the long ball which he has done in previous seasons that were late in the regular season.
