The big show has returned to Philadelphia after a long hiatus. The last time the World Series was played in Philadelphia was 2009 and I happened to be at the last World Series game to be played in that series which was a masterful Game 5 in which the Philadelphia Phillies needed to win the game to have the series continue, and they did just that.

Cliff Lee had the chores on the mound that night, and I and my wife happened to be sitting on the Harry The K’s Scoreboard porch seats for this game, which as I said was a magical experience. It’s games like these that you never forget when you are at the stadium. It was Chase Utley, Ryan Howard, and Jimmy Rollins as the stars of the 2009 team on offense. Tonight, we’ll see Bryce Harper, J.T. Realmuto, Kyle Schwarber, Nick Castellanos, Rhys Hoskins, and some younger stars, Alec Bohm, and Bryson Stott, trying to get the win for the Phillies.

It’s the return of the World Series, a very rare event in the Philadelphia area. Think of it, we’ve in our lifetimes we’ve only been witness to very few of these games, if you were lucky enough to be around in 1980, it started there, and then 1983, 1993, and of course 2008 and 2009. It’s the losing times that the Phillies’ WS appearances don’t get much press, but of course, the winning teams get all the glory.

Noah Syndergaard, who pitched for the Mets, was part of an All-Star rotation that the Mets had many years ago, but the team couldn’t keep them all. He had a great season with them in 2018, going 13-4. The next season he was 10-8 but his ERA ballooned up to 4.28. In May 2020, Syndergaard underwent Tommy John surgery. He missed nearly 2 years on the IL. So Syndergaard was considered an ace before he got injured. He has a lot of postseason experience, indeed the most on this current Phillies team.
The Phillies just need to go out there and win tonight. Forget all that stuff about playing loose, and all that. Yes, that would be great to do as well, but they have to score runs. They failed to do that in Game 2 in Houston. In fact, they were 0-7 with RISP. You generally can’t win playing like this. This is crunch time, no tomorrows, no excuses. They need to go out of the field, this is their home and win. Time will tell if this happens, but it all starts at 8:03 PM tonight for Game 3. The weather could be a factor tonight as there is a 94 percent chance of rain forecasted in the evening. Accuweather has advised that ‘rain gear’ may be needed as well by fans at the game tonight.
