Phillies dominate in Game 4 of NLCS, 1 game to win to advance to the World Series

It’s Red October madness around the Philadelphia area! The Phillies have really been on fire since they got into the playoffs via the Wild Card playoff series, and so far are not looking back at anything in the rearview mirror. Forget the horrible start to the season, the misplays, and the bullpen that at times couldn’t find its way out of a paper bag. Forget Keith Hernandez, NY Mets broadcaster, for saying ‘he didn’t want to broadcast games between the Mets and the Phillies because the Phillies ‘didn’t play sound baseball.’ No, that’s all behind this team, without even a thought about it. This is the playoffs baby, it’s the here and now… And the Phillies are running the table.

Why? The Phillies have been dominating teams through the playoffs so far in 2022. They look like a team on a mission in a cinderella type of year that would make even the most optimistic person giggle with joy upon knowing that this team is now just 1-win away from a World Series appearance. If you would have said the Phillies would make it to the World Series back in June, you would have been branded a ‘village idiot’. Well, don’t look now but the Phils are now on the doorstep of accomplishing just that feat.

Game 4 of the NLCS was truly electric last night in Philadelphia from the start of the ceremonial ‘first pitch’ by Ryan Howard, this stadium took on a life of its own with fans dancing in the aisles at the tremendous spunk that this Phillies team showed us all night. The roar of the crowd was deafening at times, my Apple Watch went off several times with 95-decibel-plus readings in the stands. And for good reason, the Phillies turned in one of the most exciting games that this town has seen in quite some time.

Rhys Hoskins, a player who like Nick Castellanos this season may not have always been the greatest, but last night, Hoskins joined Phillies postseason history with his multi-homer game. It was the 6th time in MLB Phillies history that a Phillies player hit multiple HRs in a postseason game, Hoskins joins an exclusive club of players who have done this before; Burrell, Dykstra, Howard, Werth, and Utley. Utley did it last for the Phillies in the 2009 World Series twice in Games 1 and 5 of that series – oh did I tell you that I happened to be at that game in ’09 Game 5 when Utley did that? That game was one of the most thrilling that I’ve ever been to as well!

The Phillies’ 4 HRs in last night’s 10-6 victory also tied a record for most HRs hit by the Phillies in a postseason game. The other times; Game 5 2009 NLCS, Game 4 2008 World Series, and Game 4 of the 2008 NLDS.

The team can win it all today, weather permitting as rain is forecasted to be steady in the afternoon just after the 2:37 PM posted start time. We’ll see if they can get this game in, and if the Phillies advance to the World Series.
