Phils blow late-inning leads but somehow rally in LA for wins

We’ve become accustomed to the Phillies not being able to hold a lead in a game again in the 2022 season. Despite adding more experience to the bullpen, lately, no lead has been safe with this bullpen and it started with the Mets 7-1 comeback more than a week ago, and the Phils somehow found themselves giving up another 7-1 lead against the Dodgers. The Phillies found some rally in them to get back to the winning side, and then Friday night it happened again, the Phils had the lead going into the bottom of the 9th and this time, Jeurys Familia blew the two-run lead in the bottom of the 9th against the team with one of the best records in the game. The Phils needed the 10th inning to come back and win that one 12-10. Again, we ended up taking 3 of 4 from the Dodgers and 2 of 3 against the Mariners on the west coast road trip, so we should be happy about that.

Another great start by Aaron Nola, but he doesn’t end up the winning pitcher yesterday:

The offense in the Dodger series has been stellar. The bats have pulled the Phillies from losing to winning in the first three games of the series with the Dodgers. The Phils have banged out 27 hits in the first two games, and have scored 21 runs in those two games to show a lot of heart. How much more can we stand this bullpen? And it happened again when the Phillies went for the sweep on Sunday.

Justin Turner has emerged as the Dodger player that has really been the peskiest for the Phillies. He hasn’t done very well all year, but he came up big for the Dodgers in game 3 of the series at Dodger Stadium. Friday night’s game saw him collect 4-RBI against the Phillies. Gavin Lux just happened to get the game-winner for LA on Sunday

Bryce Harper has been unstoppable as DH this season, he’s headed for another MVP if this keeps up:

The fact that this bullpen, even with the improvements is not enough, and like in the previous years that this Phillies franchise has turned in basically a .500 record, it will happen again if something is not done about it. The Dodgers were the ideal team to test the Phils bullpen against, the blue crew has one of the best teams in the game.

Yes, the Phillies did extremely well on this 7-game road trip, winning 5 of 7 games is a great trip. We really should have had 6 of 7 with the Phillies taking the lead into the bottom of the 9th on Sunday. The baseball gods though had other plans as the Phils dropped the final game of the 4-game series to the Dodgers and ended the 4-game Phillies win streak.
