Bohm controversy detracts from Phils playing baseball

Today the Phillies are more than 1,000 miles away from Philadelphia. Alec Bohm made history Monday night, no it wasn’t the 3 errors on the field or his hit sparking a roaring comeback. It was his statement that was picked up after the Phillie fans let him know what they thought of his at that time, ‘couple error game.’ Yeah, you feel bad after an error but after another, and another, you have to be ready to hear some reaction from the crowd. Bohm did and his reaction was?

“I hate this f**king place” was the quote that everyone seem to hear, and Bohm didn’t deny it. That puts him on a list of Phillies players that have crossed a line that very few players have in Philly, and it’s something that will be attached to Bohm forever now. Below is a tweet after the Phils pulled out a victory from the muck that Monday night’s game was:

Can he recover from this here? We read a Todd Zolecki piece that said, ‘Bohm handles bad day perfectly’ but that is coming from a guy whose bread and butter comes right from the Phils, and writing ‘feel good’ pieces about the team. We all saw what happened with Ken Rosenthal when he deviated from the MLB party line, he was let go.

Bohm did apologize after and seemed genuine about it, but the part of history will not be forgotten easily. The game and the fans will be there every game and every time he steps on the field. Joe Girardi should have put him back in the lineup the next day but he elected to withhold him the next two games of starting against the Mets. Do you want to be a professional? Act like one, and this is where Bohm went wrong. He went out on the field and looked silly, then he blames it on ‘hating this f**king place’? That doesn’t sound like handling things perfectly, perhaps he told the truth in the press conference, but what does that mean, he couldn’t lie about it, it’s all on camera. Perhaps Bohm spin doctored the aftermath ‘perfectly’ but by no means did this team any benefit by him being stupid.

The worst part is the Phillies ended up losing two games to the Mets in this series, all the negativity that was stirred up by this was terrible for the team and the city and the fans across the whole country. People warmed up to the feeling that this was ok, and it wasn’t. You have everybody pointing the finger at Philadelphia right now, but it wasn’t anything that “Philadelphia” did.

Bohm should be sent straight back to the minors, not for what he said, but to get better as a ballplayer. Learn not to make 3 errors in a game, and play the game of baseball. I suppose he ‘hates’ Reading too. Let him go back down and experience how it is to play the game the right way and handle things the right way, I can honestly say his antics have affected this Phillies team in a negative way, and across the country. That’s handling a bad day perfectly?
