Looking at the makeup of this year’s Phillies team reveals that most of everyone on this team is not guaranteed to be on the team next season. This is always something I think about when deciding to go see various games, will this be the last time we see this player in Phillies pinstripes?
Embed from Getty ImagesThere are only 3 players with contracts going into ’23 and they would be the top 3 paid players on the team. Bryce Harper, J.T. Realmuto, and Zack Wheeler are the only players with deals so far for ’23. Here’s a list of current salaries and it’s amazing that the team doesn’t have many players that would ‘stay’ on this team beyond ’22 without being offered a new contract. There are a few on the team with club options for ’23, Aaron Nola and Jean Segura.
The ‘new look’ Phillies bullpen is entirely built on the 1 year deal with Corey Knebel, Jeurys Familia, and Brad Hand, all just signed for this year.
Phils President of Baseball Operations, Dave Dombrowski, says he’s been ‘working the phones’ in regards to possibly adding more money to the roster, but I don’t think the Phils add anyone else in a multi-million dollar contract range. Even Bryce Harper has said, that he didn’t think the Phillies were done in the deals department, but there are only 2 days to go till the Phillies open up the Spring exhibition schedule.

P.S. Just minutes after posting this, it appears the Phils have signed Kyle Schwarber … great move!
