Time ticking on impacts to 2022 season

The MLB and MLBPA seem hopelessly deadlocked at this late point in the negotiations between them for a CBA or Collective Bargaining Agreement. The MLB has continuously recommended a third party arbitration to step in and see if they can seal the deal, but the MLB Player’s Association has said that they don’t want that, and they would just keep working towards a direct agreement. You would think that would be a signal that they feel that the sides are close, when in fact they aren’t according to what we have heard in the media.

When a reporter says that, ‘not good’ and ‘I am really out of words’, when he is asked about how the negotiations are going that is not a good sign. Yet that’s all we can say to this point. The season is approaching a time when games will be subtracted from the regular season and that means the players won’t get full pay for the season as well. Monday, Feb 28 is the deadline coming up for this. Spring Training could still be underway and teams are apparently ready for a shortened Spring, but this of course will cut revenues at the Spring Training sites for teams as well.

Here’s an article on ESPN.com describing the scene now in Florida, where both sides are meeting. Here’s another article on the lack of a deal from MLB TradeRumors.com describing what is going on. So here is yet another year in which something will stand in the way of the game, after two full seasons of enduring the Covid-19 pandemic issues that affected the game.
