Hector Neris should not be on this Phillies team anymore as closer. Well, if there are only a few pitchers that can handle pitching in Philadelphia maybe you could keep him around for middle relief, but he’s worn out his welcome in this town after blowing the 5th game of the season, and his 4th loss for 2021 at Citizens Bank Park today with a horrible loss in a 13-12 backbreaker. Here’s some players with what they have to say after the loss:
Neris has been with the Phillies far too long. He’s been asked to be a closer when he isn’t capable of being that closer anymore. Since Neris has been in this role, the Phillies have been through one of the longest stretches in recent history without a playoff appearance.
It’s frustrating to watch a bullpen like this, they aren’t the worst thank goodness, but when you’re counting on holding onto a slim lead or even a few run lead, nothing is safe with this bullpen. They are currently the 5th worst bullpen when your compare ERA’s (Phils 4.50)- with the worst being the Reds at 5.73 ERA.
I am concerned with the Phillies though, and they have some bullpen pitchers on the staff with minor leaguers with 5 + ERA’s to their name. Are you telling me that the Phillies can’t find anyone better than these type of pitchers?
With his 5th Blown Save, Hector Neris now joins Atlanta’s A.J. Minter, and the Chicago White Sox, Aaron Bummer, who are all tied for 2nd place in the dubious Blown Save leaders, only one is worse than them, Rafael Montero of Seattle with 6 BS.
