It’s a trend that started a couple seasons ago, the Miami Marlins somehow have a mastery over the Philadelphia Phillies. That trend continued last night, the Phils lost 9-6 in Miami. Joe Girardi offered ‘We need to play better’ in the postgame interview.
The promising start of the season by Zach Eflin has taken a bad turn as with the loss, Zach now falls to a 2-4 record. Girardi also offered that Bryce Harper was off for this game but was available ‘if I needed him.” Joe, I think this Phillies team needs him.
You have to wonder how this Marlins team has such an edge over the Phillies. The Marlins opened up an 8-2 lead on the Phils at one point during the game last night. Last year in the Covid-19 shortened season the Phillies were 3-7 against the Marlins in 10 meetings. The year before the Phils again finished with a losing record against the Marlins posting a 9-10 record.
Brad Miller hit his 100th HR of his career last night, that’s the 2nd time that we had a player hit 100 homers in a career as Rhys Hoskins hit his 100th HR of his career at home in Philadelphia vs. Nathan Evoldi of the Boston Red Sox on May 22, 2021. I think after Joe Girardi’s quote of it ‘It’s not late, but it’s not early’ should bring in this tune as his theme song of the 2021 season!
The Phils now fall into a solid 4th place in the NL East as they continue their sinking. Their record now stands at 23-25 and they have 3 games left in this series in Miami against an opponent they just can’t seem to master. Can the ‘real’ Phillies show up and play tonight?
