Phils rally vs Miami to keep pace with Mets

The Phillies showed some heart last night, scoring 7 runs in an 8th inning barrage of runs after being down at home by a score of 3-1 late in the game. The Phils garnered an 8-3 victory behind the rally. The Phillies maintain a 22-20 record just a game behind the Mets for the NL East lead.

All of this coming with the Phillies turning in a 5-5 record in their last 10 games. When the Phillies have suffered injuries to some key players, other players have picked it up during the past few games most notably Nick Maton, who has been outstanding, in the last 7 days Maton is 8-22 with 6 RBI and 2 HR.

So with about a quarter of the season in the books, the Phillies are still being relevant in the NL East which has been very bunched up through this week. The Mets have weathered injuries as well, they just keep winning ballgames, and the Braves have not really achieved what most people expected from them yet.

Can the Phillies keep themselves above .500 and in a winning way? They don’t seem to go on any big winning streaks, they win a game, lose a game, and keep repeating a pattern that can’t be figured out. Does this team have it in them to be a playoff team? That is also a mystery.

There has been some controversy lately, a public argument with Joe Girardi and Jean Segura. It’s things like this that we haven’t seen from a Phillies team in a while. Maybe some players are taking a lot of pride in their game, and then when they get counseled by Girardi, they take exception to it.
