Phils and Dombrowski don’t waste time with fixing a faulty bullpen

Well the good news is the Phillies have a team President that knows a thing or two about fixing up a team’s needs. The Phils went out on a three-team trade and ended up with Jose Alvarado from the Tampa Bay Rays, who it seems have had a fire sale of sorts trading a Cy Young Award winning pitcher in Blake Snell and now Jose Alvarado. You wonder why when the Rays seemed to reach a high spot with the team last year. Maybe money issues? Covid issues? Alvarado is not projected to be a star in 2021 by Baseball-Reference with the 2021 projection on him as seen below:

The thing with Jose Alvarado is that he was injured most of last year. A couple years ago, he was a top rated reliever. Can he again regain that status? Dombrowski and the Phillies are willing to test the waters and find out. See some Alvarado career stats on the beefy reliever below:

I get the feeling that the Phillies aren’t done with the signings, they can’t be. There is many needs this team has from potentially signing JT Realmuto to getting more support in the bullpen.

What happened to the San Diego Padres? They are on ‘buy’ mode, after years of being irrelevant and a team that just faded away from site usually after the first month of a season. It’s really incredible that they are so bullish, when there is caution be exercised by many teams in the MLB at the moment. Below are some comments on San Diego now adding Yu Darvish.
