Count me as excited that the Phillies have went out and hired Dave Dombrowski as the new President of Baseball Operations. I think he’ll do a wonderful job in this role. He’s turned around a Boston Red Sox team and also has a winning Florida Marlins team to his credit. He knows a bit about winning baseball.

In addition to that most recently he’s been trying to bring MLB baseball to Nashville, TN. Dombrowski also sees that the Phillies are not in need of a rebuild, he said a retooling is needed but not a drastic change. That seems to make sense to me as well. We’ve been building for so long now, that a rebuild would have been too much to take for some fans of the team.
Another great thing is that Dombrowski and Phillies owner John Middleton seem to be on a better basis than the previous President, Andy MacPhail, happened to appear. I still have to say it’s a lot of the players that didn’t produce in the last two years, the team was in place, except for a semi-horrible bullpen. A lot of the blame for the Phillies losing hangs squarely on the players.

A fresh set of eyes to look things over and make some interesting moves. If we don’t keep Realmuto, we have to make up for that with perhaps a superior closer and setup guy for the bullpen or perhaps a great starting pitcher. He won’t be afraid to deal, and that’s what the Phillies need.
All of a sudden I am somewhat excited for this team again. They’ve let us down in the last several years, we’ll see if that can change in 2021.
