Vince Velasquez was handed an early lead yesterday and did nothing but squander it. The Phillies came out swinging against stand-in pitcher Robert Dugger for the Marlins who wasn’t too good either when he was asked to pitch for the team following the scratch of Marlins pitcher Jose Urena was a late scratch from the mound.
The Phillies plated 4 runs in the 1st inning in what should have been an easy game to win for them. But as with former Phillies teams, nothing seems to come to easily for them. As mentioned Vince Velasquez got into trouble the very next inning, and the Marlins tied the score up at 4 – towards the middle of the game, the Marlins plated 7 more runs in the game to win 11-6 in a game that again, the Phillies probably should have done a lot better in the pitching department.
Harper gets on that ball giving the Phils a nice lead in the game early:

The Phillies bullpen wasn’t much better, Cole Irvin gave up 5 H and 4 ER in his brief 1.0 inning appearance. Are the Phillies bullpen woes back? I know this was only Game 3 of a 60 game season, but there is not much tinkering you can do with such a short season with a bad bullpen.

As predicted Ricky Bo was not happy with this Phillies performance, and he tells it like it is:
“This is not a team that’s going to win.”

It’s not like the Phillies didn’t have chances in yesterday’s game at CBP, the team was just 2-13 in RISP, the age old practice of moving people on base just isn’t doing too well with the team. No excuse not to score at least 1-run with bases loaded and only 1 out. The Phillies seem to find a way to do that a lot. Why?
A late addition to the blog post, the Marlins have several team members now testing positive for the Covid-19 virus and have cancelled the game in Miami against the Baltimore Orioles scheduled for 7:10 PM tonight.
The schedule continues today with the Phillies taking on the Yankees at home on Monday and Tuesday – 7:05 PM tonight and 6:05 PM on Tuesday.
