Bryce Harper gets HR #29 on the season

The Mets banged 13 hits out on the Phillies yesterday afternoon, and the result of that was a 6-3 loss as the Phillies scored 3 runs on 9 hits and committing 2 errors. The Phils were again not able to score base runners in scoring position, going 1-9 with RISP. You cant’ win like this.

The Phillies just can’t seem to string together a group of wins, this game was broadcast on a National basis, on Fox and the two teams will square off on another national broadcast tonight on ESPN Sunday Night Baseball.

Jason Vargas pitched for the Phillies in this game, he had last faced the Mets as a Marlin in 2006 – that’s a long time ago. Sean Rodriguez still got a smattering of boos, the fans have thinner skins than is realized. they don’t seem to be booing at the ticket booth, they are still buying up tickets to see this Phillies team play this way.

The rosters expand today to 40 players from the 25-man roster that had been in effect up to yesterday. The phrase ‘September call-up’ is what teams do now, to try to give their upcoming stars a chance to get a little major league experience. But this will be the last year that the MLB will do that, next year the roster expansion is only to 28 players, so it will hardly be noticed. The end of an era again with this change for the MLB.

The Phillies and the Mets have very outside chances to make the playoffs, though with each loss the Phillies chance is fading. The other issue is does this Phillies team deserve to make the playoffs the way the team is playing? It’s a very unpredictable team that doesn’t follow any regularity with success.

Rhys Hoskins is getting more unglued as this season goes on, should the Phils try to deal him?

Bryce Harper hit a HR for the Phillies with no one on in the 6th inning, his 29th of the year, and Rhys Hoskins proceeded to get thrown out of the game. We’ve seen his ugly side of what his season has produced several times this year, but this time he was thrown out of the game for throwing his helmet, and throwing a tantrum at home plate.

Another Phillies loss, it seems like management is fine with it, nothing being rumored as far as changes, it’s frustrating to watch at times, something is not right with this team, it should be better than it is but not a lot is going right with this ballclub. 40,690 fans were in attendance to watch the ballgame, as long as numbers like that enter the ball yard, that’s a lot of what management is looking for, so if the fans are still paying, the pressure to make changes doesn’t happen. Granted though, there were a lot of Mets fans in the crowd for this holiday weekend.

Tonight for the ESPN game, it’s Eflin vs. Stroman – a week ago I was really looking forward to this game, but with the way the Phillies have played in the last week, my interest has diminished a whole lot with this ballclub. There is just so much more to do with your time than watch a team play like they have been playing.
