Wally Joiner and Don Mattingly during their playing days
Wally Joyner was the Phillies assistant hitting coach. That sentence is true again as Joyner, who originally announced he wouldn’t be with the Phillies in 2014 but then changed his mind to stay has again announced that he’s leaving the team to go to the Detroit Tigers to be their hitting coach.
The Phillies now are looking for two coaches, a pitching coach and a spot to fill Joyner’s spot.
The Tigers apparently liked the coaches that were on the Phillies, previously the Tigers picked up ex-Phillies coach Mick Billmeyer, who will be the bullpen coach for the Brad Ausmus managed Detroit Tigers next year.
