Young to Dodgers, leaves a flat Phillies team

Phillies look like they have a flat tire most of the time this season

Michael Young had a full no-trade clause with the Phillies, he hit the cover off the ball in the last couple days and now he’s a Dodger. You can’t blame him, this Phillies team is at a status quo that doesn’t seem to be getting any better.

You may wonder why yesterday’s pitcher for the Phillies didn’t want to do the same thing. Cliff Lee was mentioned a lot during the trade deadline rumors of a month ago, he probably could have worked his way onto a better team and waved goodbye to a moribund Phillie team that is just not going anywhere fast. Yes, he’s still making $20M dollars this year, and that’s not chump change . The reason Lee wanted to come to Philadelphia though is to win a championship though, he could’ve signed elsewhere and possibly made more money that the contract that the Phillies offered. He came on board just like Doc Halladay did in the remnants of the 2008 World Championship boost when the Phillies looked as if they would do this for many years in a row.

Why aren’t we all excited about this year’s September call-ups for the Phillies? This year is the second year in a row now that the playoffs are a pipe dream for the Phillies, and we’ll be hearing the ‘wait till next year’ mantra. Sunday’s game in Chicago ends this 3-3 road trip with New York and Chicago, would it be too much to expect a win from them today to at least have a winning road trip?
