Cliff Lee shares his thoughts on last night’s win courtesy of CSNPhilly
The neat home and home series with the Boston Red Sox now shifts to Philadelphia tonight as the Phillies look to build on last night’s victory in Boston.
It’s kind of a playoff feel to this series even though the Phillies are not even at .500 on the season so far and we’re nearly in the month of June.
Boston gave a kind of chilly welcome back to Jonathan Papelbon last night, Pap saved the game for the Phillies and preserved the 3-1 lead to put that game into the win column for the Phillies. A mixture of mainly boos reigned out of Fenway Park at Papelbon, but there were at lot of people applauding so the boos probably will always be heard louder.
Cliff Lee pitched another one of those masterful games that we’ve come to expect from him. Lee scattered 4 hits in 8 innings and earned his 6th win of the year, and lowered his ERA to 2.34 in last night’s win. It was a good rebound from Monday night’s Memorial Day loss to the Red Sox 9-3 when Tyler Cloyd took a beating at Fenway giving up 6 ER on 9 H in only 2.1 IP on the night.
Domonic Brown came through for the Phillies again last night, he homered for the 11th time last night on the season. Brown was also named NL Player of the Week for May 20 to 26. The last Phillies player to earn that honor was Cole Hamels who earned it last season from August 13 to 19.
Kyle Kendrick and Jonathan Pettibone have the Boston Red Sox for the 2 home starts. Kendrick is 0-3 vs. the Red Sox lifetime with a 10.80 ERA, we’ll see if he can reverse this tonight from Citizens Bank Park.
