Carlos Ruiz hasn’t warmed up to Major League level since return

There was a great anticipation that Carlos Ruiz was going to make an impact to this Phillies team that needed his offense that he has been known to produce over the past couple seasons. One week into his return into the Major Leagues after serving his 25 games suspension for a violation (illegal substance).  Ruiz hasn’t yet found his groove.

Ruiz has appeared in 5 games for the Phils, and the first three games he was in resulted in 1-12 at the plate, he struck out 3 times on Wednesday and his batting average is .111 so far.

It’s not really surprising that Carlos hasn’t really made the adjustment yet, as he is probably still trying to get settled in at the plate while facing major league pitching.

Here’s a list of Carlos first five games including Saturday night’s loss to the Marlins:

Thirty-three year old, Erik Kratz appeared in 22 games for the Phillies to cover for Carlos Ruiz’s absence while he was suspended, and Kratz posted a .197 BA in 71 AB before being sent back down to the minors. Kratz added 2 HR and 8 RBI to the mix.

Mother’s Appreciation Day Game:

Today at Citizen’s Bank Park it’s Mothers Appreciation Day when all Moms (women 15 and older) will be receiving a nice tote bag in appreciation to them.

Don’t rush out to buy that Mom’s Day gift today, the real holiday doesn’t come until next Sunday, but you have only 1 more week to get Mom that special something. The Phillies are on the road next Sunday so it’s being celebrated today at CBP.

The game today will be at 2:35PM as the Broad Street Run has forced the Phillies into the later start today, even though the club must travel to San Francisco after the game and play the Giants on Monday night in San Fran. I guess they don’t call it the ‘red eye’ for nothing.

Ryan Howard watch:

Ryan Howard has had a very slow start to this season, the first month of the season had Ryan with only 3 HR’s and 16 RBI, he has hit 2 HR in the first 5 days of May and added 2 more RBI to his total so far. He has 29 SO in 107 AB’s but still is carrying a .280 BA on the season.

Roy Halladay makes another start today

Roy Halladay is making his 410th career start today in Philadelphia, he is coming off a bad start from his last game that he pitched in Cleveland. Doc looked like he had rebounded and found his groove in the 2 games prior to his start in Cleveland but that optimism has turned to concern again about just what is wrong with Halladay.

Doc gave up 8 ER and 3 HR on 9 hits on his last outing and that was his worst start of the year so far, next to the start in April on the 8th when he faced the Mets at home and they shelled him for 7 ER.
