Winning is just what the Phillies need now

The Phillies have been on a winning streak, that’s exactly what they need to do at this time in the season, with Labor Day weekend happening next weekend, the sprint of this season is now going to turn into an old fashioned foot race to the finish line. The most recent win coming last night in Philadelphia and after a 2:33 minute game, the Phillies ended up with a 4-1 victory.

The Phillies started winning last Sunday and haven’t stopped since. They have been standing in against two tough NL East opponents in Washington and Atlanta, and have been doing quite well with it. The Phils winning has bunched up the standings in the NL East to where any of these teams have a chance to take the division now with the month of September remaining.

In the first twenty days of September, the Phillies will be playing the Miami Marlins 7 times, and the New York Mets in 6 games. And in the month of September, the Phils have 7 remaining games with the Washington Nationals. So there are going to be plenty of NL East match ups to go before this season is out.

With the winning surge, the Phillies have lifted their playoff chances to just under 50 percent as of the win last night. Twenty-six year old, Zach Eflin, earned his 2nd win of the season and Brandon Workman notched his 3rd Save as a Phillie closer. The series with the Braves wraps up tonight with another national televised game on ESPN Sunday Night Baseball.

34 year old, Jake Arrieta (2-3 4.32 ERA), will take the mound for the Phillies tonight, he faces Huascar Yona (0-0 4.32) – both pitchers have the same ERA.
