The schedules of all 30 MLB teams were released on MLB Network Live at 6PM EDT tonight. Leading off, the Phils take on the Marlins at home on July 24-26, then take on a New York Yankee squad in 4 straight games, home and home style. A trip to Canada (or wherever the Blue Jays will play their games) is up next, that takes us to August.schedule_60
I had to laugh tonight when I tuned into Philadelphia’s 94.1 sports radio at 7 pm just after the schedule announcement show on MLB Network. WIP announcer Ricky Ricardo was saying and lamenting that ‘the first day off for the Phillies will be in Miami on August 3rd and that’s going to be a little tough for the latin players on the club’. Come on, Ricky are you serious or delirious, that’s one of the most stupid comments I’ve ever heard from a sports commentator. Get real.
This schedule is so… short. A smattering of games vs. NL East opponents fill most of the schedule, with some regional AL opponents thrown in. This isn’t a good representation of a good season, the season probably should have been scrapped all together. The NFL Players Association has come forward with a proposal that the NFL season be scrapped, that is a serious reaction to a serious situation. I am usually not in alignment with the NFL Players Association on much, but on this I think they hit it out of the park.
