Spring Debut of Jake Arrieta and Bryce Harper today in Florida

The Phillies haven’t been doing to badly in Spring Training already, they are 2-0-1 on the Grapefruit League season, of course you can’t read too much into the standings as players are being moved around like chess pieces on a board, players that may never be on the Phillies team are playing, and the players are still shaking off the off-season rust. I much prefer a winning record over a losing one though always, so this is something nice to grasp onto early on.

Today, will be the debut of two highly paid and talented players on the Phillies. Pitcher Jake Arrieta, who is in the final year of a 3-year $75M deal with the team that has seen some average results. Arrieta is 18-19 with a 4.26 ERA in 2 seasons with the Phillies with 55 starts. His overall record is 106-75 with a 3.72 ERA, so needless to say I think the Phillies brass are not impressed with the returns they have gotten bringing Arrieta to the Phillies.

Of course the marquee player on the Phillies is Bryce Harper, he’ll be on the field today for the Phils. Last year Harper smacked 35 HR and 114 RBI with 99 BB on the year. Much more returns with Harper than with Arrieta for sure. 2019 was Harper’s first year with the Phils playing 157 games for the team, clubbing 36 doubles. Harper was only intentionally walked 11 times last year. 2019 did not see Harper make the All-Star team though (he’s a 6-time All-Star), it was only the 2nd time in his career that he hadn’t achieved the All-Star accolade.

Harper shared some of his off-season trip to Europe with fans and followers on Instagram, it seems like Harper prefers Instagram to Twitter for sure, he only follows 25 fellow tweeps there, and rarely posts, but here’s a couple of the off-season photos in case you didn’t see them.

Harper looks like he has a lot of class there in those photos with his awesome trip of Europe over the off-season. Today though we’ll see him in his work clothes for the Phillies. We’ll see how he does this year, in one of the highest paid baseball players in the MLB. If there was ever a jersey that you would want to buy insuring a long-term type of investment, it would probably be a Harper jersey, he’s going to be on this team for a long time to come.

Quick, what appy would Bryce Harper never order? Mozzy Sticks .. believe it or not, not on his list of things to order. I just placed an awesome order of those very items at Olive Garden just the other night, they were awesome!
