Are the Phillies done with their acquisitions for the off-season?

The Phillies picked up two bigger named free agents this off-season in Zack Wheeler and Didi Gregorius. There are a few more bigger named free agents out there, but the Phillies appear to have all they need to go into the start of 2020 with a new team that is tweaked a little bit but some would argue their is still some work to be done with this team.

The bullpen appears to be the place that the Phillies most need attention, they still don’t have that combination in the pen that people have a warm and fuzzy feeling about. Hector Neris is still the closer for the team, Neris was 3-6 last year, he made $1.8M last year, he is 2nd year arbitration eligible this season. It’s estimated he may stand to make $4.7M this season.

There’s still been talk about names like Kris Bryant and Nolen Arenado, but the Phillies are basically right near an approximate salary total of  $185M with a lot of players getting paid big bucks by the Phillies to play baseball, being topped by Bryce Harper with his $27,538,462 pay this year.

JT Realmuto is expected to earn around $10.3M this season, if the Phillies can’t reach a longer term deal with him of course. So, the team is really filling out with it’s share of big money earning ballplayers, with Arrieta, Wheeler, and Harper all earning $20M or more for the 2020 season.

The Phillies picked up Jay Bruce on June 2nd 2019 and will have him for 2020 at a $14M tab. He appeared in 31 games last year for the Phillies.
