If this Phillies 2020 team goes bust, we’ll probably look back at this offseason and say that management went “New York crazy” with all of the ties to NY that the Phillies made this late 2019. We can start right with Joe Girardi, is Joe the best candidate to manage a baseball team? If so, why wasn’t he gobbled up a long time ago by a major league team?
Alright, I don’t want to spoil the mood of fans that say that the Phils have a good chance of winning the NL East this coming year. And, today in South Philadelphia, the rest of the NY connection was introduced to the fanbase via a press conference. Didi Gregorius and Zack Wheeler were on stage to be introduced today, and they looked happy. If I were Wheeler, I’d be very happy, getting a $118M contract without accomplishing too much in the MLB so far. He’s been with the NY Mets for 5 years and has a 44-38 record with a 3.77 ERA – not exactly Cy Young material.
Is this gonna be a dream team? I don’t know, it may have a certain grittiness to it, than we’ve seen in the past. Longtime Phillies players, Maikel Franco and Cesar Hernandez are gone, they were with this team for a while, they put their heart and soul into the Phils team, but now we have some new players to get use to.
We’ll be seeing this in action in just a few months from now, let’s let the holidays go by, soak in all the new players and manager, and keep an open mind.
