Yes, Chase Utley is going to be at the stadium today, his sleep in tact
The annual alumni weekend is in it’s final day this afternoon at CBP. It’s always a special time for fans of all ages to get down to the ballpark and appreciate all of the nice memories that previous Phillies great players and teams have provided.
It’s hard to believe that the 2009 World Series team is already now 10 years into history since the Phils made it to the series. It was such as magical time to be at the stadium and a fan during this era. Now this year some of the players are back, we saw Matt Stairs on the TV broadcast last night, and of course Bobby Abreu (2019 Wall of Fame recipient) from the Phils which seemed like a really long time ago since he has played with the team. Abreu played 9 seasons with the Phillies, he played another 9 years with a combination of other teams (started off with the Astros) including 2 years with the Yankees. He played on a lot of Phillies teams that weren’t that good wrapping up his Phillies portion of his career in 2006. I always thought Abreu wasn’t all that highly regarded by fans or the team when he was traded to the Yankees. He did make $125M over his career, and that was when teams really weren’t paying people as much as they do today.
Cliff Lee is apparently going to be a no-show for the festivities today.. we have the memories though Cliff…
The Inter-league Series with Chicago wraps up in South Philly with the 2009 Alumni weekend honoring the 2009 World Series team. Drew Smyly will start for the Phillies vs. Reynaldo Lopez for the Sox.
