One step forward, and two steps back, Phils stumble again

Phillies fans have been exposed to the marketing side of Bryce Harper this year, and I did enjoy seeing these spikes but winning for this team seems to have taken a back seat

Jay Bruce got in on the 4th of July spikes with the Nike offering… Nike has taken a permanent ‘do not buy’ status from this writer, the politics of a company like theirs combined with their being overpriced and how they source their own products are the reason

The Phillies showed their bad side last night in Atlanta, after taking a 4-0 lead in the top of the first inning. The lead was short, the Braves battled back in short order and tied the Phils with relative ease, then proceeded to take command of this game behind a very poor outing by Zach Eflin. Eflin dropped to 7-8 on the season, and these kinds of outings by him is what is killing this Phillies team.

Eflin’s line ended up 3 IP with 7 R and 6 ER on the night, it was really frustrating to watch. This Phillies rotation has been anything but reliable most of the time this season. This is the 8th loss for Eflin by himself, the Phillies had the lead in this game, and he just doesn’t seem to have what it takes to be a reliable starter.

Here’s Eflin’s game log so far this season:

By the end of the game, it was Braves 12 and the Phillies 6 – as the team couldn’t keep pace with the barrage of hits by this Braves team that has a formidable lineup and has really shown it’s better side in the series. The Braves controlled the Phillies but the Phils only really have themselves to blame.

What more can we say about this Phillies team, they are not really serious contenders to take the NL East in my opinion, from night to night they show that is evident. The offense needs to be more explosive but when they are, the pitching ends up blowing a lead in most games.

It’s a very frustrating team to watch and follow, last night especially. The Phils now travel on to the Mets, but the Mets have a score to settle with the Phils, I don’t think we’ll see the same team that the Phillies beat in Philadelphia in 4 straight games just a few days ago. If they do, shame on them, and shame on this Phillies team, they have let a lot of fans down the way they are playing, but it seems just a matter of the talent isn’t there with some players and it’s starting to show.

Here’s the roster based on OBP – how many times a player is reaching base

If anything, bring up some prospects from the minors, or trade some of the players that aren’t performing. Something has to be done, as this team has just lost all of the momentum it built up.
