Brian McCann and the Brave celebrate, after the Phillies drop a game which they led 7-2

We’ve heard the Phillies are a good team, they certainly didn’t live up to that last night, and if you’ve been reading this blog for the past several weeks, the theme has been how the Phillies just can’t hold a lead when they have it. This was the 69th game of the year for the Phillies, we’re not in April and May anymore.

OK, how not to lose a game, mound meeting with Neris just before the game winning hit

It happened again last night in Atlanta, it’s a crucial series with the Braves, as they have knocked the Phillies out of first place and now it seems that the Phils are on an elevator down. There is no lead that is safe with this team, the bullpen is just almost non-existent. Phils lose 9-8 to the Braves, who should have been in the losing column in this game. McCann hit a fly ball that seemed to hang up in the air forever but no fielder could come up with the ball, and the game was over, Braves win.

Nick Pivetta deserves credit last night, he pitched a great game, then the bullpen comes in and completely gives up a big lead

I know the Phillies have had injuries, every team goes through that, it’s the better teams that can adjust and still win ballgames, and the Phillies just aren’t able to do that. There is no way a baseball game should be lost when you’re up 7-2 in a game, management needs to come in there and make something happen. It’s crunch time, and nothing seems like it’s going to be done about it.

I guess maybe the increase in attendance with this team is ok with upper management, more fans in the seats, and they are satisfied the commitment to winning is taking a backseat now it seems.
