Phils hold on last night to even up series with Cubs

Jared Eickhoff set the tone last night for the Phillies, he wasn’t intimidated by the ferocious Cubs offense

The Phillies managed to hold on to a game last night despite some tense moments late in the game by the Cubs. Jeanmar Gomez finished off a nicely pitched game by Jared Eickhoff and the Phillies put a much needed “W” on the board for only the 3rd time in the last 10 games.

Ryan Howard hit a home run into right field and he looked like the Howard of old, when he used to do this very regularly. Howard was the star of the game, even though Eickhoff could have had that honor as well as Gomez for saving the game.

It’s been a while since we’ve seen Ryan Howard in the game MVP interview after the game. He’s just going about his business and didn’t have anything bad to say about anything. Howard can really handle an interview well.

Local product, Matt Szczur, who played in Cape May before going to college at Villanova, played an important part in this baseball game. He scored a run for the Cubs that made the score 3-2 late in the game as a pinch runner. The Phillies would do well to try to get Szczur from the Cubs in a trade if they could. He could be a great every day player for the Phillies.

Eickhoff got the win last night, and the Phils gained a little confidence that they can beat teams like the Cubs. Maybe Eickoff exposed a weakness of Cubs phenom, Kris Bryant, it seems he doesn’t handle a good curve ball very well.

Afternoon game today at 1:05 PM as the series wraps up, this has been a very good series so far. Let’s see if the Phils can get the series victory.
