Phillies ex-pitcher Vance Worley is again in the National League with the Pirates this year, Francisco Liriano will open the season up for the Bucs on Monday against the Reds
Baseball is back in South Philadelphia tonight, as the Phillies have traveled from their warm confines of Florida to a slightly chillier Philly for tonight’s continuation of Spring Training at CBP.
The Phils will face the Pittsburgh Pirates, again forecasted to do well this year. The Pirates have a 15-11 record so far in Spring Training and are a team that many feel may finally get deep into the playoffs in 2015.
The Phillies on the other hand are a team that has completely lost it’s direction. The Phils lost 10-1 against the Tampa Rays yesterday and have been getting thumped as the last week of Spring Training in Florida has been played out.
Phils fans should prepare themselves as this team could be even worse than last year’s finish, but the season hasn’t even started yet so this writer prefers to be on the optimistic side of things.
Many unanswered questions remain about the team though, as it was supposed to be a year of rebuilding, but the Phils did little to prove that.
Pat Gillick, Phillies President, keeps talking about 2017 for the Phillies like it’s going to be a magical transformation (He also said the same thing last year) for the team in that year, but the problem is that it’s only 2015 now, and there is plenty of baseball left to play before that time that Gillick seems to think the Phils will again be a team to recon with. So what to do before then? Will Phillies fans remain faithful, spending their hard earned money on an inferior product, one which even management seems to be saying, don’t bother?
Jeff Locke for the Pirates, and Aaron Harang on the mound for the Phillies tonight as we get even closer the Monday afternoon’s official Opening Day for the Phillies.
