Manuel says hello to fans in Atlantic City, NJ

Charlie Manuel still draws a crowd, months after his firing from the Phils

Charlie Manuel hasn’t fallen far from the Phillies tree, he’s still beating the drum that he has been for the whole time he’s been manager of the Phillies.

On Friday night, Charlie Manuel was on center stage at Tropicana Hotel Casino right on the boardwalk in Atlantic City. Manuel was there talking about baseball.

If you were expecting Manuel to be bitter about being let go, you would have went away disappointed. Charlie Manuel didn’t have a bad thing to say about his former team or the organization. In fact, he let the fans know a little information that hasn’t been reported on yet. Ruben Amaro Jr. was down in Florida last week and invited Manuel to accept a job in the Phillies organization at a ‘supervisory’ level. What exactly means isn’t too well known yet but Manuel is taking his time making a decision and is weighing his options at the moment.

The show at Tropicana Hotel was one that I don’t recall ever happening after a manager of a baseball team has been let go by a team. Usually such a manager would fade off into the sunset, but there is something about Charlie Manuel that we don’t want to let go.

Manuel talked about his playing days in baseball, and perhaps he has a book inside of him to write about his experiences in baseball, who knows. Manuel is a colorful character and delighted the crowd that paid $15 to hear his thoughts on baseball and the Phillies.
