John Buck has been a powerhouse for the NY Mets this year. He also has the distinction that he shares with Jeremy Horst of being the only two players in the MLB born in Wyoming. Buck had 15 HR and 60 RBI for the Mets before he learned that he and Marlon Byrd would go to Pittsburgh from the Mets before Tuesday night’s game.
Matt Harvey just learned that he may need Tommy John surgery, and how quickly this game of baseball changes. Harvey started for the National League in this year’s All Star game and holds a 9-5 record and a 2.27 ERA with this mediocre Mets team, but now his career is put on hold until the surgery is complete and he heals.
Harvey’s nickname is The Dark Knight of Gotham, and now the Mets are in need of some serious help on the field again as they really have paired themselves down to a team that is once again deconstructed.
This didn’t stop Jonathan Niese and the rest of the Mets from going out and beating the Phillies last night 5-0 though, the Phils now have scored only 2 runs in two games with the Mets. You knew Jon Niese was on top of his game as he was very sharp with his fastball and keeping the Phillies hitters off the bases. Niese even plated a double and brought in 3 RBI on the night.
The Phillies could only manage 3 hits on the night.
It’s Cole Hamels for the Phillies tonight for game 3 of the 4 game series, he’ll face Dice K, Daisuke Matsuzaka who the Mets acquired after he failed to make the Cleveland Indians starting rotation out of Spring Training this year. It just seems like yesterday when Dice K was the talk of the Major Leagues, he won 18 games for Boston in 2008 but never quite achieved that success since then, he had a $51,666,665 dollar contract with the Red Sox that was over at the end of last season.
Dice K – his career numbers so far:
